Evaluate 3.1.1 – Differentiation Quest

AP Testing Practice Data

I give students at least one and usually two released prompts from the College Board prior to the exam in May. I typically want students to work to score in the 6/7 range out of 9 if they are planning on taking the exam. However, not all students are taking the exam. They just want to become better writers and prepare for college. The data below reflects scores on Question 1: Poetry, Question 2: Prose, and Question 3: Free Response.

I can several things from this data file because I can see how students progress on each question and throughout out the course. Often, writing assignments are once a month, so I can see progress throughout the course also for each student in reference to their timed writing skills. If a student isn't progressing, I know that a one on one conference might be needed to discuss my feedback and comments. I also require students to rewrite the first two essays, then, any essay under a 5. This allows me to focus on the students that need help the most. Usually, when students are writing in the 2/3 level, they don't understand the prompt of they have testing anxiety and the timed component makes them nervous. These are all things I can help them work with.
