Provide a detailed description of all that this information tells you about the hypothetical course. Include how the teacher might adjust the course in the future based on the previous activity of these students.
1. The piece of data would be most effective to show how many students are enrolled and in what course. This of course with help with planning, designing activities, and gathering materials.
2. Knowing the test the students must complete would help me to design curriculum and plan practice activities. The 'Student Type' information would give me an idea regarding accommodations needed and inform differentiation for the course.
3. The Contact Log (which I also use in my class) helps to know who you have contacted and any information you learned from that contact that could help the student. If I'm having issues with a student, I often ask the parents for ideas and suggestions because they know their student better than I do. This also works to document that stakeholders have been involved.
4. Good News Contacts are just as important. Although I sometimes use email, I also like to use regular mail to send postcards celebrating particular achievements of students. This documents the students that have worked well throughout the course, perhaps even for end of the course awards.
5. This chart is interesting because it shows how active students have been in the online course. I wish I had this in the face-to-face classroom because it's hard to monitor student achievement. With this data, I would communicate with the students to make sure they weren't having difficulty assessing materials and to clarify expectations and instructions.
6. Just this year, I've started using the Comments feature on the gradebooks, in particular for grades that are missing and incomplete. Now that students can access their grades on the online gradebook app, this helps the teacher document interaction with students about their grades.
7. Allowing the students to see their missed questions makes the assessment more effective. Often, knowledge builds in a course, so if students can see missed questions, they will be able to master that concept before moving onto to more difficult ones.
8. I like the score and feedback model, but it would be even better if the instructor could attach a rubric with comments instead of just bullet points. In my course, this would help students complete rewrites.
