Evaluate 2.1.2 – Rubrics and Competencies Quest


Standard: ELAGSE11-12RL4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone, including words with multiple meanings or language that is particularly fresh, engaging, or beautiful.

Students has to complete several steps. First they had to do some general research on some poets and read some poems, to get exposure. Students used research cites, posted on the assignment, such Galileo and Gale.



Then, students looked at samples of annotated poems. Then, they practiced annotating their own poems and used TPCASTT to analyze the poems.

Since this is AP, I wanted students to be a expert on one poet in particular, so I had them choose from the 5 poets they studied and research even more poems in order to present to the class.



Although I asked students to have a similar product for presentation, they could use different poets and different sources in order to show their understanding of how poets make particular choices.
